An initiative is underway to further develop the California Missions Trail, an 800-mile world-class long-distance walking and cycling route that connects the 21 Missions from Sonoma to San Diego.
Our interactive Story Map features five missions in the Central Coast area of California. The journey begins with Mission San Buenaventura and travels approximately 150 miles north to Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Our route makes stops at Old Mission Santa Barbara, Old Mission Santa Ines, and Mission La Purísima Concepción.
To help imagine a walk from mission to mission we have included suggested stop points that are spaced approximately a “days walk” apart. At the end of the StoryMap, there is a place to leave a comment. Let us know what you think about the California Missions Trail, the route connecting the five missions, and other topics.
